1. Product Overview

FBM18 is the classic first-generation mixed analog + discrete I/O fieldbus module of Foxboro I/A Series DCS, belonging to the early non-compact FBM product line, completely superseded by the later multi-functional FBM247 series and fully discontinued by Foxboro official production. It integrates universal analog signal acquisition and digital output drive functions in one single rack slot, greatly saving cabinet slot resources for small and medium-density measurement & control loops. The 8 analog input channels support mainstream industrial sensor signals without additional signal converters: 4–20mA two-wire transmitters, 0–5/0–10VDC voltage signals, K/E/J/T/R/S-type thermocouples, Pt100/Cu50 RTD temperature sensors, and passive resistance signals. Each analog channel is equipped with independent isolation and signal amplification circuits to suppress field electromagnetic interference and prevent cross-channel signal crosstalk. The built-in 8-channel opto-isolated digital output adopts 24VDC sinking/sourcing transistor design, capable of directly driving solenoid valves, local alarm annunciator lights, drain valves and small auxiliary motor contactors. Independent short-circuit auto-cutoff protection for each output channel; a short circuit of one actuator will only lock the faulty channel without affecting the normal operation of the other 7 analog input and 7 digital output loops, effectively improving system continuous operation stability. Real-time multi-dimensional self-diagnosis logic continuously monitors broken field cables, sensor open circuit, output overload, short-circuit and module internal power supply failure; independent bi-color LED indicator is reserved for each channel on the front panel, maintenance personnel can quickly locate faulty measurement or drive loops without portable signal testers. The PCB base plate adopts industrial anti-corrosion conformal coating, meets ISA S71.04 Class G3 harsh environment standard, and can be applied to power plant, petrochemical, chemical and offshore oil & gas Zone2 hazardous control room environments. At present, FBM18 only circulates in the market as surplus new stock and fully tested refurbished spare parts, mainly used for maintenance, cabinet expansion and technical renovation of legacy old I/A Series DCS systems built in the 1990s–2000s.
